This coming Monday, I will be getting back into fitness again. Yes… I know… it has been a long time coming.
NO MORE EXCUSES! NO MORE PROCRASTINATING!
So why am I getting back into fitness now?
I want to feel good, look better, and be healthy! However, I am going to be more strategic on how I approach exercising this time around.
My immediate plan for this first month will not be very rigid. I simply want to accomplish 3 or 4 runs per week, some light core work 4 to 5 times per week, and stretch for 15 to 20 minutes per day.
My primary motivation to spend the first month with only these exercises is to ease back into a fitness-oriented lifestyle while trying to avoid injury. I have not been very active physically in quite some time and I suffer with an ongoing issue with neck pain as a result of two herniated disks.
My hope is that getting back into a regular regimen of exercise will help alleviate my chronic neck pain. I know that living a somewhat sedentary lifestyle is contributing to this problem, which is negatively impacting my overall quality of life.
Was pretty fit before, but it has been a while.
The last time I was actively exercising I injured my shoulder pretty significantly while lifting weights. At that time, I was pretty fit and my strength training was seeing decent gains. However, a couple weeks after the injury I was pretty much not able to continue with weight training. Unfortunately, I did not have the injury checked medically. It took nearly two years before I could truly put it under any significant duress.
I am sure that I tore something then and it very well may come back into play when I begin reintroducing strength training into my routine. Needless to say, I must be very careful and be smart with my exercise choices.
So, I think it is easy to see why I am using the first month to focus on cardio, core, and flexibility.
I will be chronicling my fitness progress and accomplishments in a blog series, The First 30 Days of Getting Fit. Perhaps it will motivate you to take your own steps to getting fit. If so, please send me a message to let me know how you are progressing.
Okay… getting back into fitness! Let’s Do This!
